Pay Your Fidya

Feed the hungry for each fast you cannot keep

What is Fidya?

Fidya is a religious donation of money or food made to help those in need. It is required when someone is unable to fast during Ramadan due to valid reasons and cannot make up the missed fasts later.

The payment of Fidya provides meals for those who are less fortunate, ensuring that while you may be unable to fast, you can still gain the blessings of Ramadan through charity.

Who Should Pay Fidya?

  • Elderly individuals who are too weak to fast and unlikely to regain the strength to do so
  • Chronically ill patients with long-term illnesses that prevent fasting
  • Pregnant or nursing mothers who fear harm to themselves or their baby
  • People with medical conditions requiring regular medication or food intake

"And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]." - Quran 2:184

How is Fidya Calculated?

Fidya is calculated based on the cost of one meal (approximately the cost of 1.5 kg of staple food) multiplied by the number of fasts missed. Our Fidya rate is $10 per day, which provides two meals to a person in need.

Quick Calculation:

  • 1 day missed = $10
  • Full Ramadan (30 days) = $300

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Fidya and Kaffarah?

Fidya is for those who cannot fast due to valid reasons (illness, old age, pregnancy) and cannot make up the fasts. Kaffarah is for those who deliberately break their fast without a valid excuse and must pay a larger penalty.

Can I pay Fidya in advance?

Yes, you can pay Fidya at the beginning of Ramadan for all the fasts you know you will miss. This allows us to distribute food to those in need throughout the month.

Where does my Fidya go?

Your Fidya donation provides meals to impoverished individuals and families in countries where food insecurity is prevalent. We ensure your donation reaches those most in need.

Is Fidya tax-deductible?

Yes, as Qurbani Foundation Canada is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your Fidya donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
